EMOM and Running

I worked out at 8:30 this morning, and Coach Nick led the session. This was another though workout. And I loved almost every minute of it. I didn’t like minutes 16, 22, or 27.

OPT A: Metcon (AMRAP – Rounds)
EMOTM for 30 minutes
– 5 toes to bar
– 5 incline pushups (toes on 24″ box)
– 5 chest to bar pull-ups
– 10 jumping air squats

It was a busy morning spent preparing for the Running Clinic and the Safe Kids Day events. As is often the case, I didn’t warm up enough before the start of the workout.

I took a different approach to this workout, and did not set a goal to complete all rounds. Instead I told myself that I was unable to complete 5 unbroken toes to bar for any given round that I’d rest the next round. And that’s what I did.

I started off strong, completing the first rounds in 36, 36, 35, 34, 36, 35, 36, 37, & 36 seconds. I briefly lost focus the 10th round and mistakenly completed 10 pushup. Dammit. I completed that round in 41 seconds and didn’t complete pushups the 11th round, completing that round in 29 seconds. I completed rounds 12 through 14 in 36, 36, & 37 seconds.

And then it happened. I completed toes to bar in single reps and the round took me 42 seconds to complete. I rested the 16th round. i came back stronger, completing the next 4 rounds in 34, 34, 35, & 38 seconds, and then it happened again the 21st round. Not only did I complete toes to bar in singles, I was only able to complete 4 unbroken chest to bar pull-ups. Dammit. I rested round 22. I also had torn the skin on the left hand of my ring finger so quickly put on a bandaid.

I completed rounds 23 through 26 in 35, 36, 38, & 41 seconds. I completed unbroken toes to bar, but once again completed chest to bar pull-ups in 4 unbroken reps and a single. I rested round 26.

I completed the remaining 3 rounds in 36, 39, and 15 seconds. I was so spent that I completed toes to bar as single reps and was only able to complete 3 unbroken chest to bar pull-ups.

That’s 135 toes to bar, incline pushups, and chest to bar pull-ups and 270 jumping air squats.

Total time = 16:45

I quickly showered and departed for CrossFit Goliath to hold 4-hour Running Clinic. Today was a tremendous amount of fun! I truly enjoy coaching running, and I very much like when people say “I hate running less.” I like it even more when people say “I like running more.”
