THUD Redux

Two colleagues from work, Sean and Nick, wanted to give CrossFit a try. Kirk was gracious enough to allow them to attend the 5pm session. Unfortunately, Nick got “sick” and was unable to attend.

I had planned on accompanying them both and then merely observing or doing a different WOD. Sean, however, was the only attendee at the session. I couldn’t imagine anyone doing this particular WOD solo; thus, I felt compelled to join him. I wasn’t, however, looking very forward to the torture that I knew awaited me.

Deedee led the session, and we did a very similar warmup as was done this morning, although we rowed instead of ran. I like rowing. I love running. I did chuckle when Deedee said, “There’s a lot of testosterone in the room tonight.”

Deedee reviewed the movement standards and scaling options. Nice job, Deedee!

For Time:

  • 25 Toes to Bar
  • 50 Walking Lunges
  • 75 Kettlebell Swings (53/35)
  • 100 Meter Sandbag Carry (50,25)
  • 75 Double Unders
  • 50 Pushups
  • 25 Wall Balls (20,14)

My one and only goal was to complete this faster than I did this morning, and I would’ve been pleased with 12:19. True story.

As I did this morning, I completed toes to bar and walking lunges unbroken. Lunges, however, hurt. I was very tempted to rest and shake out my leg, but I didn’t.

KB swings went better this evening, and I completed in sets of 20, 20, 15, 10, & 10. This saved some time, and I knew I was going to need it.

I would gladly run miles carrying a sandbag.

I completed double unders in reps of 40, 25, & 10. Deedee said, “I don’t care how they look, you still cranked them out.”

As I knew what was coming next, I took a different strategy with pushups. I did 10 sets of 5 reps, shaking out my arms and counting to 5 between sets.

Although wall balls were still a challenge, I did much better this evening in that I completed in sets of 5 or 4 and I only had 1 failed rep.

I completed in 12:04, 14 full seconds faster than this morning. Deedee recorded “Paul (again) 12:04 Rx” on the board. Ha!

Been there, done that, got the tee shirt. Sean can now say the same.

Luke passed his test at You Lucky Dog and will be visiting 2 to 3 times a week! I’ll be able to work out, drop off Luke at daycare, get breakfast, and still be to work well before 8.
